A Community Vigil of Reflection, Connection, and Solidarity: Ferguson and Beyond
5PM Wednesday evening, November 26, there will be a community gathering and vigil at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of DeKalb, 158 North Fourth Street.
All members of the DeKalb County Community are invited and welcome to attend.
The vigil will provide a safe gathering place for reflection and connection of people who care about social justice, racial justice, and stand in solidarity with those dedicated to peace in Ferguson.
You are invited to bring a poem or something to share. Or come and be with others in silence. It is an opportunity to share grief, caring, compassion for those who have and continue to be affected by injustices in Ferguson, and beyond. As we saw Monday night, in towns and cities all across the country, the issues of inequality and injustice are not just a problem which begins and ends at the borders of Ferguson. There will also be music and an opportunity for discussion.
You are also invited to bring your own candle.
As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars…Hate can not drive out hate, only love can do that.”
You are invited to Stand on the Side of Love, to join others in our community who care to create what Dr. King called the “beloved community,” and want to share in providing a patch of light during dark times.
