UUFD Farmers' Market canceled due to COVID

After a long hiatus owing to pandemic conditions, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of DeKalb, located at 158 North Fourth Street, will resume its Winter Farmers’ Markets in 2022. Our next market will take place on Saturday, February, 12, 2022, from 9 am to 3 pm. Admission fee is $1 per adult. As COVID remains a concern, this market will be limited to 21 vendors to allow for improved social distancing and ventilation. Masks are required except while eating and drinking, and vaccinations are strongly recommended.

“Our winter markets have always been popular, warm, festive events for the DeKalb area community, so we are happy to be able to resume them now, says UUFD Market Coordinator, Dorothy Coleman.

The market features humanely-raised, hormone-free pork, poultry, and grass-fed beef, and organic eggs, sausage, and cheese, all from the Hasselmann Family Farm. Other market favorites include locally raised honey, French pastries from the nuns of Fraternite de Notre Dame, and Greek pastries from the bakers at St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Locally made artisan crafts include jewelry, ceramics, woodwork, fabric art, and much more. The popular used book sale offers a variety of children’s and adult’s titles, with most prices ranging from $.25 to $1. Hearty soup and bread, sweets, sodas, coffee, and tea will be available for purchase for lunch or snacks, with a seating area provided.

In addition to all of the vendor activity, there will be both live instrumental music and streamed music all day to create an even more festive atmosphere.

Shoppers will find numerous options for Valentine’s Day and Easter gifting, all direct from from a local farmer or artist. “Money spent locally multiplies throughout the community instead of leaving the county, helping to support a strong local DeKalb County economy,” Coleman says, “so we are pleased to provide this opportunity for people to shop locally.”

UUFD will be keeping an eye on the positivity COVID rate for DeKalb as market planning moves forward. The market may be canceled if the positivity rate reaches 8% or more two weeks prior to the event. UUFD's top priority is to keep market staff, vendors, musicians, and shoppers safe. Presently, however, there is optimism that the early winter holiday COVID spikes will calm down by February.

UUFD is located at the corner of N. Fourth Street and Locust with two admission entrances--the main entrance on N. Fourth Street,  and the side entrance on Locust Street. Parking is available in front of the Locust Street entrance, and in back of the church building, accessible through an entrance from Locust street. Additional parking is available at the Van Buer city lot  and in other nearby street parking.
