About our Children's Religious Education Program
Updated 10//09/2025
Children's religious education classes take place during the Sunday worship service on the first and third Sundays of each month. Children should come into the service with their families, and then leave with the religious education leaders after the children's message. The religious education classes are all volunteer led, with at least two unrelated adults with the children at all times.
This year, our main goal is to integrate the children into our UUCD community, so various church members and friends are leading lessons about topics of interest to them. Here are some examples:
- Music -- musicians in the congregation are introducing the children to different instruments and teaching them songs. We hope to perform some of the songs during worship service.
- Quilting -- the children (and the rest of the congregation) will have a chance to decorate quilt squares, and some of our congregation's fabulous quilters will make those squares into a quilt to decorate our building.
- Stories about family, community, our natural world, and learning together.
- "All about me" project: Thanks to a congregation member who donated these journal/workbooks, the children will gradually be completing pages throughout the year. The pages let children reflect on their family, their "superpowers" (what they're good at and like about themselves), their community, what they want to be when they grow up, and how they can make a difference. Eventually we'll bind these into books each child can share with their family.
If you have questions or would like to volunteer, contact the UUCD Board of Trustees at board@uudekalb.org
We think you will find the UUCD Children's RE program a wonderful experience that you and your children will both love.
